How interesting.. a friend has twin daughters who are in their early 30s. One had a load of hassle getting through passport control in Poland because the EU digital ID system clearly doesn't know how to handle identical twins! Immigration was convinced she was not herself but her sister (who had been on holiday recently and already been through the new ID system.) Presumably whichever one goes through the system first becomes the 'default' twin. #Twin #Doppelganger #Digital #ID

@stuffjolikes What ID does the EU digital ID system use to identify you?

@stuffjolikes It would be very interesting to see what would happen if they travel together.

@stuffjolikes If the twins arrive together the system panics and, eventually, the central computer explodes. I'm sure that I remember this from Star Trek.

@stuffjolikes That's interesting. You would assume that these ID systems only do a 1:1 comparison (Is the biometric data from the live feed identical to the one stored on the passport's chip?). There is actually no need to cross-check for identical images. Also the question "Has this passport been used elsewhere?" should be answered based on passport number, rather than by comparing images.

  • @stuffjolikes @iampytest1 Identical twins? This is the least of your problems, it can't even tell non-identical people apart. Just wait until you find out what facial recognition does to black people. The bar is in hell. :kerbal:
