At a fundamental level marking against opinions you disagree with is entrenched bad pedagogy. All the window dressing of complaining about woke ideology aside, even if you were a total bigot, you should still be able to mark something as "well argued, but on a personal level I don't agree with this" without punishing the marks. The inability to do that is puerile. @Taskerland @devilsjunkshop

@Printdevil Right... It should be about helping people acquire skills and familiarity with a field of knowledge. Move away from that and it's 19th Century German universities with everyone queuing up to lick the boots of Herr Doktor Professor Hegel @devilsjunkshop

@Printdevil @Taskerland @devilsjunkshop When I was in college, for one class on the history of Speakers of the House we read and wrote about the fall of Jim Wright and I was pretty unstinting in my criticism of Newt Gingrich’s role. My professor, a former R Congressman (‘69-‘82), gave the essay back with a note “You should know that I consider Newt a personal friend. Nonetheless, your paper is well written and your arguments are logical and well supported. A+” That’s my ideal academic approach.
