Late 80s: Older brother of a friend from school introduced us to #Midgard2E my brain: 🤯 Then started to play DSA as a 13-years-old, soon #Adnd2e came along, saving our souls. My English grades improved thanks to 2nd Ed bloat. Played a lot of #Gurps in the 90s. Fell out of the hobby for 8-10 years - always missing it. Re-entered the hobby through Gurps, Pathfinder, 5e. Discovered the #osr & Storygames ten years ago. My brain: 🤯 - never looking back. Found my home, ttrpg-wise

@HeyeBodo@rollenspiel.social 80s. Family moved a lot. With no permanent friends I retreated into imagination and fantasy. White Dwarf. Dragon. Fighting Fantasy. When we finally settled, I found a small Head Shop hidden in a decaying arcade that sold RPGs. They were kept under the counter and to this day still reek of the incense that burned behind the till. My tastes haven’t changed much. Over three decades later and my biggest gaming revelation is still Advanced HeroQuest’s solo rules, and I still love crunch.

@HeyeBodo@rollenspiel.social found DSA in the shop. Introduced some people but couldn't find a group for the longest time. (living in the village). then played DSA, DnD, CoC, Midgard, Shadowrun, Vampire, and a few others. got into the whole lightweight OSR thing about 20 years ago which has started to dominate my RPG philosophy. now living in another country I had issues finding regular players, but even my few regular games have moved online now. Now more focused on OSR DnD, Traveller, Harnmaster, SR, et al.

@HeyeBodo@rollenspiel.social Found The Dark Eye at a church library, had a bigger issue finding a group. Was very annoying to the local comic shop owners asking about their "Adventures in Magira" game. So after sporadically playing in the lands of Aventuria, there was a big splash of terminally 90s games (Shadowrun, World of Dorkness, GURPS), and a big boost when d20 madness came along. Managed to foist GURPS and HERO upon those people sometimes. Tried story games at that time quite often, but they often are like "FMV cutscenes" to me. After moving, finding The Dark Eye groups was the only good option, so the circle closes in a weird way. Dipping into OSR territory, but holy frick, definitely not "part" of it. I still like overly complicated settings. I still haven't properly played "Adventures in Magira".

@HeyeBodo@rollenspiel.social In the 80s, a flyer advertised Dungeons and Dragons at the local library. I went and a college kid slapped a piece of notebook paper down and started writing "STR, INT, WIS..." I was hooked. We played tons of D&D, but also Traveller, Twilight 2000, Car Wars, Champions... Fell away from the hobby in college, eventually had kids and thought I'd try with them. Found Pathfinder, which felt like a video game to me but they had some fun. One of them is still hooked on ttrpgs. At the start of COVID, got invited to play 5e on Zoom, and it excited me at first but very quickly felt like this was not the game I remembered. Just didn't feel the same. So I bowed out, Googled "low fantasy role playing game" and found Low Fantasy Gaming. Rounded up my own group and man, did it take off. 3 year campaign, loved the system, fell in love with the hobby again. Now we play weekly. I run various flavors of old school D&D, another guy runs Traveller, and another guy makes us try more modern stuff - we all love Brindlewood Bay somehow. We call our group the Sunday Night Dirtbags...

@HeyeBodo@rollenspiel.social Travelling down Canada's west coast as the family moved from the high arctic to Germany; stopped with old family friends. Their son had this weird-looking game called Dungeons & Dragons. It appealed to my drama flake side and I was hooked. Living in Germany, playing AD&D with a little circle of outsiders. Someone brought DragonQuest to our lunchtime gathering and I learned that there were better ways to do things. Dropped D&D forever shortly thereafter. Haven't looked back since.

@HeyeBodo@rollenspiel.social made the first character (DSA) in 9th grade, but we never played. Three years later played one session Cyber Punk and didn't like it (or rather how it was played). Another 5 years after that I met a guy who showed me what fun this is. Kept both the man and the hobby. I am still more of a casual player, never having too many campaigns and mostly playing at conventions. A little more than 20 years after that I will finally start my GM life in 9 days.

@HeyeBodo@rollenspiel.social I came upon Shadowrun at a friend's. It never clicked for me. I played a bunch of WoD, it never turned out as hinted in the books. I joined a D&D3 group during uni, we became friends for a time. I tried a bunch of indie games, thinking I'd never find my game. Then I found PbtA.

@HeyeBodo@rollenspiel.social Started playing in 85. my stepbrother aquiesced to me joining a game. It was a red box dungeon crawl. Didn’t really get hooked until a few years later, when I found friends who were more into role playing and collaborative storytelling aspects of TTRPGs. We tried tons of Rules and Settings, including Shadowrun, Rifts, AD&D and 2e, and we made them our own. Mid 90s were spent playing tons of palladium games. When I moved to Germany, I got into Midgard3. Played that until about 2002.

@HeyeBodo@rollenspiel.social Got interested (there was a rpg section in a Computer Game Magazine) in the early 90ies and bought a lot of DSA Stuff. Only to don't really get it first. Only played solo adventures for a couple of of years. Started be a gm in mid 90ies. First DSA, than Star Wars D6 and than Shadowrun for a looong time. But tried a Lot of different systems. At the moment i play maybe once a year some d&d. Really miss it, but i can't make it work at the moment.

Around 1998: playing with a group every weekend and with a "study group" (AG) in school. Gurps and Shadowrun and WoD. 2000: In the Gurps group started playing + writing https://www.1w6.org 2006: found a group at university. Running games in 1w6, playing shorter stories as player. 2011: new uni, partly old group, cycling 90 min to sessions. 2019ff: playing online since CoViD.

@HeyeBodo@rollenspiel.social started with DSA3, SR2 and ED in '96, playing weekly during the last school years, intensified to four+ times with D&D3, oWoD and CoC during the apprenticeship years. After moving for the job, dialled back to twice with GURPS, D&D3.5 and WoD DA. Playing globally online thrice+ during the G+ years with DW, Fate and MotW. Which helped in the pandemic and still is the way in case of illness. Nowadays it's thrice a month with TOR, HeXXen and AoL. Fotm systems changed, but never stopped 🤟🏻

@HeyeBodo@rollenspiel.social stared at the amazing cover art for the old DSA modules in stores, pressed my nose against the window pane of a back alley fantasy shop with a chainmail bikini dwarf fighting a red dragon on display, had a char killed by a fellow player in my first con game at age 11, was gently taught by an American DM that weapons matter in D&D, loved the anything goes-feel of zeroes forge style indies, settled into "old school" adventure gaming with my kids.

@HeyeBodo@rollenspiel.social At 8, babysitter taught me Holmes Basic D&D, I soon found Gamma World, Star Frontiers. Friend ran Top Secret bc his parents believed the Satanism thing. TONS of Star Fleet Battles, Car Wars, & Traveller. I quit AD&D because it sucks, ran Palladium, RoleMaster, Stormbringer, Champions, Tunnels & Trolls. College I did Ars Magica, Kult, a LOT of RoleMaster. Work slowed me down, mostly Palladium, Witchcraft, & my own games, semi-pro (have been paid). Now, OSR, Fantasy Trip, etc. #ttrpg

@HeyeBodo@rollenspiel.social Late 80's: I got Hero Quest and Gm'ed for my friends then morphed into AD&D2. We all went to different universities, our group dissolved and I found a WFRPG group. I was hooked and we played through all versions (we sometimes tried other systems like DnD or DSA but always returned to WFRPG). 30yrs later I left this group for good this winter, cos my understanding of RealLife ™️ and theirs were no longer compatible. Luckily the #Valravn OpenTable saved my hobby life 😁 #WFRPG #ADnD2E

During pandemic isolation at 48 I took up game-mastering again with dependable members of my #boardgames group. We've had three monthly sessions since. Important for someone who likes attention yet works alone. We switch games twice a year. #ttrpg #pnpde
