@domi Wow, what a cool history :3 Interesting to learn that it all started out on a Raspberry Pi and I'm very surprised that it only moved on to a desktop/server setup in 2020. That's around the time I also moved to more "proper" hosting and shared a server with a friend. Like I would have been convinced that Sakamoto in that form would have existed for longer. Happy to also have something running on there, thank you for maintaining this really cool community project :3

@domi That was a really interesting one to read. And I'm impressed by your restrained. I've been writing a similar series for a while now, and it is already at four draft posts. 😅 And I know the frustration of not having proper notes about everything while writing up the history. It is surprising how much we were once able to fit into a Pi 3's 1 GB of RAM. I especially love the "a server for friends" part. How did you start that? Did you offer, or did somebody ask whether they can have an acc?

@domi that was a really good writeup 👍 I wish I'd done something like that considering that I'm running my own server/s since I got a used SPARCstation 5 for cheap in '97.

@domi Having some friends help with managing it is a blessing. That's something I'm missing for my family infra - it doesn't need _much_ maintenance, but if it's broken, there's no one to help me fix it :/

@domi before I forget completely 1) how do you arrange planned downtime when other users are logged in; like reboots-for-kernel-upgrades stuff? do you just wall <<< "reboot incoming, hold on to your tmuxes" or do you have a monthly schedule? (like you have some disdain for single-user selfhosting but one reason that keeps me from actively going out and Offering Services on my own systems is that I'd have no place to tinker with things anymore and get into situations where something breaks until reboot, or a security fix needs a reboot, etc. (another reason being that all my machines are kinda /old/ lol)) 2) already forgot what else I was going to ask I think it was about putting literally everything on one server vs multiple lower spec servers
