And if you're currently developing a mobile app, please just f*cking stop and re-evaluate what you're doing with your life.

@Kroc I did all kinds of fun microcontroller programming both personally and professionally for over a decade, and almost none of the tech bros have any clue how to write an atomic function, to setup registers to make an I2C port work, or to configure a phased locked loop. All of this is lost, like tears in the rain.

@Kroc Here I am wondering if I should be coding for the Atari 7800 or stay safely with my beloved Atari ST.

@Kroc or 6809 code - no need to suffer for the sake of it!

@Kroc Happy memories indeed, but much more socially useful would be to contribute to the accessibility of your project of choice, if you have spare capacity.

@Kroc @philpem My doubling-down on Pascal might have something to do with this mindset, too.

@Kroc the only retrocomputing-related programming language I know is ZDoom's zscript: whose only commercial usecase is publishing your "total conversion" mod as a stand-alone game. (my HTML skills are basic enough to be considered retro)

@Kroc Same with certain 16-bit systems, too. Like the Amiga, or consoles like the Sega Genesis/Megadrive. Been having a lot of fun working on 68K assembly shenanigans for the latter.

@Kroc building my own ISA/architecture so that my code is especially useless to everyone except myself :neofox_floof:

@Kroc Not a computer person, so no clue on this: I kept my old 486 laptop, running DOS. Does that fit into thwarting the AI bros
