It's amazing how Blender took a step back, thought about the feedback they received from the community, acted on it and a big chunk of the community went "nope, not good enough" and/or "your first mistake was irredeemable already". It's like ... if I were in such a situation, my takeaway would now be: if the community takes offense in the future, I might as well ignore it cause reaching out won't change much.

  • But frankly, the ungrateful way of how some of the community acts doesn't surprise me. Neither does it surprise me that nobody so far seems to have taken offense with Blender also being sponsored by Meta. As if the money that came from that company was any cleaner.

    @memoriesin8bit@mastodon.gamedev.place there's a ton of pent up pain and anger about ai in general and not being listened to by organizations that put out endless "we heard you" press releases. i can't say i'm surprised, even though i thought blender handled this about as well as they could have. i think people are right to stay active in the discussion until the policy changes materialize, but i think there's also a lot of misdirected anger remaining
