My brain's churning through storytime, so let me get a summary of things ... The #IronAgeApocalypse story starts at midsummer. Several weddings are taking place, where we follow Daga Atlesdotter (the grand-daughter of a seer) as she marries Ingemund Tyrgilsson and moves from Kil (where she has lived with her mother and grandmother) to Kärra, where Ingemund's father Tyrgil Svarte (named so due to his dark hair, something that his son as inherited) and mother Jorid Hakonsdotter (Daga's mother's childhood friend) live. Daga is fourteen years old and Ingemund is fifteen. Her life at Kärra is good. She and Ingemund were friends when they were little, and she gets used to life with servants and the larger house. Jorid trains her daughter-in-law so that when the time comes, Daga will be able to handle everything with the household, as it befits the wife of powerful man. Slowly spring rolls around. The air warms up, the ice melts ... but one day Daga feels quite ill at ease, insisting that something is wrong, and that they need to rush the animals inside. Because of her grandmother's reputation, her in-laws trust her, making sure all animals are inside and ordering that the people working outside should also shelter, at least for a few hours. It seemed like nothing was going to happen. A few people stepped out, muttering about trusting a young woman's word like that ... and Daga herself questioned whether she had just overreacted. But as she stepped out as well, a haze spread from the horizon. It covered the entire sky in bluish tones, dimming the bright midday sun's light. What ill things could this bad omen be heralding? Famine as the crops failed to thrive. Freezing as the sun barely warmed the land. The summer never came. Harvest in autumn was non-existent. And factions formed. Had the gods abandoned them? Some cursed the gods and looked for other, stronger, gods that would protect them from this evil. Had they offended the gods? Some sought to appease the powers, with bloodier and bloodier sacrifices. And some, led by the newly widowed Daga who now wielded her grandmother's seer's staff, sought only to survive.
