Themes/subplots: - Daga is ace. I'm not sure exactly how (and if) this will come into play, as while she *is* married ... her husband's quite willing to wait with anything beyond them sleeping in the same bed (because space and all that) - Her mother and her mother's best friend are ... "more than friends". After the death of Tyrgil (and the death of Daga's elderly grandmother), Gylla moves in with Daga and Jorid, so the three of them create the core of the "let's just survive" faction - I want to keep a balance of tragedy and hope. While I don't know how many (with the exception of Daga, since she *is* the main character) will survive, I want to make the deaths meaningful, even if the cause is natural within the context (in an epic about Swedish immigrants to the US, we have one of the main character's children dying because while hungry she eats oats that haven't been fully treated ... and it swells in her stomach)
