@thefathippy my choice of a hybrid heat pump may not have been ideal (there’s still a little bit of gas for the harsher winters, and sometimes I worry that the heat pump part isn’t as efficient as it should be) We do reach minus 10°C or so a few times a year (at night) but overall my climate isn’t much different from what you describe, so I’m surprised by the big difference in our usage: it’s like your heating has no impact on the usage trend? The small bump could just as well be due to shifting habits (more TV or whatnot) My previous burner (all gas) was using 4 times as much energy all winter, and now it’s spiking only one month a year (and half as much as before), so there has been a nice improvement Well 🤷‍♀️ what’s done is done; I’m trying to improve on this setup, hence my curiosity about PV and battery capacity

@GuillaumeRossolini I have reverse cycle AC, & understand it's a heat pump elsewhere. Mine's a small split system, not ducted, one outlet cools/heats the parts of the house I use. I shut the rest. I was miserly last winter without a battery, so mostly heated me rather than air. I had heated thermals & an electric throw blanket for watching tv. Next year will be the test. I experienced -8 in China—much colder than I'd ever been! My "warm" Aussie gear didn't cope, & neither did I! 🥶
