Knitters of Mastodon: the enamel on my metal needles is wearing off at the points, any ideas about the best way to stop the ragged edges from catching the wool I’m knitting? I’ve given it one coat of clear nail varnish which has helped a bit, but it’s not smooth yet. I’d like to keep the needles, as they were my Granny’s #Knitting #Wool

Thanks to everyone for the boosts and suggestions. I think the solution I’ll try for my worn knitting needles is sanding the edges and painting over with UV setting gel nail varnish top coat. #Thanks #knitting #FediSolutions

@Hellybootwader@mastodon.scot Do you know anyone with a kiln or torch? You could re-enamel the needles. It may require sandblasting to prep the affected areas and transition over to existing enamel. They also make porcelain top coats; a layer of that may be worthwhile if it will bond directly to metal. It would give you a more enamel-like surface and protect the metal from rusting.
