satire requires a clarity of purpose and target lest it be mistaken for and contribute to that which it intends to criticize

to correct a misconception in the replies: 3 there is no such thing as "doing something ironically too often", because no action is performed ironically. you're either mocking it or you're doing the thing, and if you're mocking it, you'd do well to reflect on point number 2.
