i read that “the reg-nr: attribute adds official company registration numbers to organisation objects maintained by the RIPE NCC. This helps clearly identify organisations, especially when names are similar or identical” which reminds me of the time cambridge university had to provide registration documents to ripe it’s a charity, but as a special case it isn’t a registered charity it has a royal charter, but as a special case it isn’t on the privy council’s list in the end we sent them a copy of a statute dating from elizabeth I written in early modern english

@fanf@mendeddrum.org :) We act as a middleman in some financial services stuff and so also have to properly identify our customers. Our upstream providers' form doesn't require a register number, but does have a "founding date". One of our customers is the Catholic Church, so ... roughly 33 A.D? Another field requires the "legal form" and one of our customers is an "organization according to old law". They do have founding documents, for they were "founded by Senate decree of October 12, 1874" or somesuch.

@fanf@mendeddrum.org I expect the City of London would have an even harder time satisfying this requirement. Their foundation seems to predate English record keeping.

@fanf@mendeddrum.org we had fun like that in Ireland too. For UCD, two acts, each of a different parliament, were cited. I guess TCD/DU needed to cite an Elizabethan charter. @natural20@mastodon.ie might know more.
