I&#39;ve decided to go for it. I&#39;m building a replica of Doubleneck de Poitrine. I&#39;ve bought a 40€ #guitar and a 50€ #bass, laid out a rough shape and I&#39;m gonna buy some #tonewood in a local hardware store now. It&#39;s a 17€ spruce plank, which I cut in three pieces and glue side by side to get the width. I haven&#39;t decided on a couple of things yet. Firstly, I&#39;m not sure if I want to reshape the headstocks to match the original #AngineDePoitrine instrument. I may even make it different on purpose. Secondly, do I refret the necks completely with identical frets, or do I buy the tiniest fretwire I can find, so that I can easily see where the standard notes and where the quarter-tones are. Again, depends on my decision to make an exact replica or not. I&#39;m leaning towards making it my own.

I think I have overthunked the template-making too much. I've downloaded a bunch of strat and p-bass vector templates and played with them, but they don't really align with the photos made by Raphaël Le Breton (the luthier that made the original instrument for #AngineDePoitrine) even after correcting for the perspective. I guess he made both parts shorter to shave off some weight. Now I'm not sure why I even wasted my time with fender templates. I've downloaded enough 4k footage (made by those weirdos, who stood in front row with their phones and made videos) to make decent screenshots, on which I can correct perspective, align/average, and trace the shape with enough precision. I hope to finish till thursday, when I will have access to lazer cutter and make a final template for routing.

@kauzerei YES! I was thinking just today while watching people on Youtube half-heartedly bend notes in imitation "Why isn't anyone else making this instrument!?"
