the modern software user experience is akin to living in an apartment that's constantly being remodeled by a landlord who randomly shows up everyday to ask if you'd like to be punched in the junk now or maybe later

@dotjayne I was •just• doing a thing in Word, and started getting extremely inconsistent behaviors from the style formatting. I finally figured out it was updating 🤦 Some Day Real Soon Now I'm going to shift over to Libre Office (in between all the •other• defensive tech shit I need to do....) Stg, Chrome updates Every. Freaking. Day. & on my work laptop wants a "relaunch."

The upside of doing the job well is limited compared to tactics like lock-in, dishonest subscription models, and monopolies Some corners of the software industry are less affected.
