My collection of saved bean seeds. Some for culinary use, others for sowing. All are heirloom or open pollinated varieties. One jar contains a cross of two beans as the start of landrace gardening. All the others look true to type. The bean seeds are all distinct from each other in shape, size or colour. I’ll be growing 5 more varieties (climbing, dwarf french and broad beans) for seed saving this year. #SeedSaving #GrowYourOwn #SolarPunkSunday

@Broadfork a cool tip for long term storage - add dry cat clay to the jar. It will suck up moisture from the air like a silica baggie and help preserve the seeds for longer

@Broadfork May I ask when you start your beans for dry bean harvest? I'm in continental zone 7b. I usually start my beans in the beginning to mid May. But have only harvested green beens so far. Do you start yours in pots or sow them directly? And how do you harvest? Do you collect the whole vine with pots and hang them to dry inside or do you just leave the pots on the plant to dry outside. I'm afraid thar our autumns are too cold and wet here and the pods might grow mould in the outdoors.
