@Broadfork May I ask when you start your beans for dry bean harvest? I'm in continental zone 7b. I usually start my beans in the beginning to mid May. But have only harvested green beens so far. Do you start yours in pots or sow them directly? And how do you harvest? Do you collect the whole vine with pots and hang them to dry inside or do you just leave the pots on the plant to dry outside. I'm afraid thar our autumns are too cold and wet here and the pods might grow mould in the outdoors.

@levampyre I direct sow 90% of my beans, starting today & I’ll sow some every week through May. I started some new to me varieties and one saved variety of old seed in pots at the weekend to check their germination. I leave beans for saving and storing on the plant to dry before shelling & drying them on a windowsill. Runner beans need the longest time to dry on the plant but bush bean plants can be uprooted and the seeds ripened in a dry, warm room. I’ve never had to do this once in 5 years.
