@nullagent@partyon.xyz I had an interesting conversation with a young latino guy about ICE and he was lamenting that the black people in his school don't see it as their issue and I'm like 🤔 how much effort does the Latino community really put into black lives matter? Solidarity is a two way street. Our struggles are connected, but it doesn't necessarily feel that way rn. 😔 I do what I can, but there's a lot of anti black racism and ignorance in my community still.

@nullagent@partyon.xyz No, I don't think it's dropped off the radar. It's just the public radar has so many events going on it's getting lost in the noise. Chances are very likely it's gonna get a lot worse before it gets better, too.

@nullagent@partyon.xyz I have a Google news search set for "unarmed black man shot by police" and it did not send me this story. (I checked.) Atlanta Black Star is one of the sources it regularly hits. So possibly these stories are getting censored somehow.

@nullagent@partyon.xyz nothing real is covered anymore- over a million acres of the country have been on fire for a while now and I just found out yesterday by the chance that a small environmental journalist posted about it. The media is so fucked. But we care. I am resisting the regime in all ways possible.

@nullagent@partyon.xyz Most folks don't care and probably never did, feels like. In my home town there have been multiple unarmed black people shot by cops. Nothing in the paper or news. I only knew cuz the dad of one of the victims came to my store. He needed a couple pints after being in court all day over it. You can't trust the media to tell us these things, not when there's so much propaganda to push. They want us focused on hating each other and silencing everyone they can who says otherwise

I read the newspaper every day in elementary school, and the Philly cops shot a Black man about every three days in the 80s. Man, we gotta fix this shit. Far as I know, America invented the modern police force, and its original purpose was to snatch Black people in the North and re-enslave them in the South as 'runaways'. Works as intended.

@nullagent@partyon.xyz I care. I care deeply. But unless a neighbor personally witnesses a killing, I seldom hear about it. There are only three news web sites left that I can view without quickly running out of data on my phone, and if those three don't cover a story, I'm not likely to hear about it. In case you're wondering, the three sites are: https://lite.cnn.com/ https://text.npr.org/ https://www.cbc.ca/lite/news?sort=latest I'll try to put more effort into getting news from other sources, like the physical newspapers at the library.

@nullagent@partyon.xyz in my city there was a demo of 2,000 people on sunday, against police brutality and for remembering the killing of Lorenz A. that happened a year ago. I think in Germany an important part of our protest culture is "Mahnmäler" which are just little things like graffiti, stickers or sometimes bigger art projects, reminding people and strengthening consensus of what happened. not allowing people to forget so they keep protesting and fighting.j

@nullagent@partyon.xyz I have a vague suspicion that the interest in African Americans and Black people in general is just self serving. Honestly, I don't think there's ever been any real concern for them or for the poorest folks. This tendency is probably partly rooted in human nature itself. Now, I'm not saying everyone is like that, but we need to realize that the masses are easily manipulated.

You're also pretty unlikely to see people getting up in arms over gun violence or climate change right now because it's just so far outside the realm of possibility that it will be addressed, and there's currently a White nationalist sitting in the White House
