Generative "AI" has no idea what it is doing, a story in four images.
The first image is my original drawing (a Venn diagram) with a white background. The second is the same image after I removed the background using GIMP, i.e., made the background layer transparent. The third image is an effort by the "AI system" that is offered as part of my Wordpress setup to create a transparent background. In fact, it has created a new background that is a grey and white grid, and has failed to even make the grid regular, in what I take to be the grid equivalent of a 6th finger on a human. And last is a screengrab from GIMP that illustrates how transparent layers are shown in editing tools, which is no doubt what the "AI" "thinks" transparency looks like.

I take this to be a version of the "symbol grounding problem" raised by Rodney Brooks: that LLMs can't "ground" the language they produce and consume in the real world, having no experience of the latter. https://rodneybrooks.com/three-things-that-llms-have-made-us-rethink/
