I tried this with both Lynx and Links, and they both work just as well.
So new life hack: You can probably read any paywalled article with a text-based browser, probably because they don't do scripts at all.
EDIT: If you prefer a GUI browser, @dillo has you covered (thanks to @temmie19 for the tip!)

@Infrapink NoScript seems to have prevented the paywall on my side, too.
