@joshsutphin This is an interesting point. Mastodon is about to introduce their own version of Starter Packs, called Collections, and wondering if one of the effects of these will be to load up people's follows and actually dilute engagement. Keeping the number of accounts per collectios small is one consideration to avoid this phenomenon. Would also like to see some way to load collections onto Lists. #collections

    @mastodonmigration I do find that Starter Packs somewhat cheapen the follower relationship. I don't even know who all I'm following over there any more, just that it's mostly some mix of folks who showed up on various bookish lists... and then a handful of people I know in person.

    @mastodonmigration @joshsutphin I kind of understand what "problem" the starter packs are trying to solve, yet at the same time, I think it reveals that there are different kind of views what the "social" in social media means. It is that difference what has driven many X/Bluesky/Threads people away from here, because Mastodon and fedi doesn't work like that and also because of that, attracts different kind of people here.
