I kind of understand what "problem" the starter packs are trying to solve, yet at the same time, I think it reveals that there are different kind of views what the "social" in social media means. It is that difference what has driven many X/Bluesky/Threads people away from here, because Mastodon and fedi doesn't work like that and also because of that, attracts different kind of people here.

@henrik @mastodonmigration @joshsutphin I think there's a fundamental difference in fedi and those others. I personally don't even feel I'd need more contacts, and mastodon does not push for more. Those other platforms on the other hand live out of data and try to grow indefinitely.

@henrik @mastodonmigration @joshsutphin yah, honestly I think they're net-destructive. they're trying to Maximize Engagement™ just like the big (consistently evil) players do: a faster feed means more doom-scrolling means more addiction. I understand the empty-feed problems and how it can be good to find your crowd. but celebrities and addiction are not what I want to see pushed here.
