My brother rescued a bee from the hall and gave it a drink in the back garden. He says it was very thirsty. Which is a good reminder to have an insect drinking station in your garden. A shallow dish filled with stones, and then the water poured to a level below the top of the stones will let insects drink in safety.

My brother tells me this is a Tree Bumble Bee, a species that has only been seen in Ireland since 2017. It is, apparently, “harmless and gentle”, at least according to records.biodiversityireland.ie .

@shezza_t@mastodon.ie your drinking station suggestion made me reevaluate my bird drink tray(bottom of a milk carton filled with water, which is never used), I have now added stones to it to make sitting areas for insectoids 👍
