Say hello to Wolli, our new wollemi pine.
If you don't know their story, they were thought to be long extinct - fossils of them showing up in 70 million year old rock and never seen in real life.
Then in 1994, a lone bush walker discovered a cluster of less than 150 of them hidden down a highly inaccessible valley in the Wollemi National Park in NSW Australia. They're so rare, the location of the valley is kept secret, only known to a few park rangers and scientists.
They were nearly lost in the enormous 2019-20 bushfires, only saved due to herculean firefighting efforts.
Now we're joining the effort to preserve them 😊

@dmakovec I was staying close to the fire area in 2020 and one of the locals happened to mention that the helicopters just kept water dropping the same area over and over
