@NinjaNia not super clear on your requirements, but Signal is:
* not Google
* not Meta
* very secure
* reasonably simple to setup (basically like WhatsApp) since it just uses your phone number
Caveat: you can only message other people who use Signal through Signal. You’ll still need an app for SMS.

@MostlyBlindGamer I have signal, but I'm not making my elderly family members switch apps. It has to be something that only I use.
