@brianokken @tacaswell @mpirnat I certainly made my jump in mechanical engineering due to be willing to write code instead of use a handheld calculator… but it is relatively common in mechanical engineering (although even a lot of folks there migrate to excel). I can imagine field folks may use handheld calculators…

@ogi @brianokken @tacaswell @mpirnat it's not at all uncommon in accelerator physics. there's an awful lot of stuff that is perfectly reasonable to work out on a calculator and calculators have the virtue of being very reliable and not exposing the user to a lot of faff on a regular basis (something PCs have yet to rise to)
