@cybervegan It turns out the driver wasn't the issue (CUPS would've handled it out of the box). I ended up booting into Windows and got the same error. Basically, it thinks it's out of paper because a little lever that interacts with a cog in some way is spontaneously entirely absent from my printer. I suspect it's actually migrated somewhere internal that might require a bit of disassembly, but I just can't be bothered today. I have another working laser printer anyway.

@cybervegan The only times I've ever had to install print drivers on Linux, it turned out I actually didn't, and that there was some other fault, lol.
