Sent in, mid-April while the crocuses are just up, my first poetry submission package with an expected 2027 reply date. Thinking oh, snow will be on the ground when this comes back. Like a year forward, but with a little skip back in the tape.
What a weird profession I've spent my adult life in. There's this little constant thread of people in my life saying I'm constantly living a bit too far in the future, not always being where I am *now* -- and I don't think they're at all wrong. But when your working life is sending poems about how you felt 0.5-2 years ago to a magazine now, who will answer when the snow's just coming off the ground again, and might publish the autumn after that? What can you say? Time's going to be -- well. Funny.

The nice thing about the journal that takes 10 months to reply but also takes 6-10 poems per submission (they also pay well, they legitimately earn that long response time) is that every year you get a tiny snapshot of your working themes and recent-ish output. Didn't *feel* like I had an interesting year in drafting poetry? But: not bad, not bad. #poetry
