After a long local blackout, I finally bought myself a handcrank/solar-powered radio, which won&#39;t replace missing electricity, but ... I dunno, it felt like I was doing something responsible. But lately I&#39;ve just been turning it on to listen to the local college radio station and rediscover the joys of letting a human pick what I&#39;m listening to next. The DJ just now said their favorite music was &quot;muzak&quot; and queued up some bossa nova. Tidal can&#39;t deliver that kinda delight. &quot;Muzak&quot;

Yesterday, the college DJ on deck must have received a break-up text while on-air because their voice got sad and they give their listeners the advice to "never settle," then did their best to carry on with a wavering voice, right on the edge of crying. Braver than the troops. Even read a PSA before going back to music.

@signalstation@raggedfeathers.com If I recall correctly, "Muzak" was a real company which pioneered pre-programmed music for elevators and waiting rooms. It's sad to realize I have lived through all these "inventions" which plague our lives. No computers, no cell phones (all wired to Ma Bell), no voice menus, no bans on games like Lawn Darts. Now there's AI everywhere, I'm being spied on by my toaster, and I'm ready for the Lord to take me home.

@signalstation@raggedfeathers.com Our only state 4-year uni/college has a radio station that has spread across the entire (large) geographic area on many FM frequencies and now streams online. They even have 24-hour music stations for classical, jazz and, well, everything else. Good stuff! Yay for public radio, I say.
