When my son was 12, he and his mom were looking at her albums. He asked her “Mom, how big were the CD players back then?” She laughed and showed him a turntable. He was fascinated that vinyl held sound.

@copter_chief@mstdn.party I regret getting rid of my Sony turntable (last one I owned). I only have a few vinyl records left, but I'm looking for an inexpensive replacement, so I can hear them again.

@copter_chief@mstdn.party I was probably just as confused, but in a different way. Mama had a collection of 78's. We had albums that were 33-1/3's, or 45's for singles. It seemed the turntable was always at the wrong speed and nobody checked it before the needle hit, causing all kinds of "chipmunk" or slo-mo sounds. And sometimes it was done on purpose. (We also learned how to record radio to cassettes, then how to burn CD's.)
