I was probably just as confused, but in a different way.
Mama had a collection of 78's. We had albums that were 33-1/3's, or 45's for singles. It seemed the turntable was always at the wrong speed and nobody checked it before the needle hit, causing all kinds of "chipmunk" or slo-mo sounds. And sometimes it was done on purpose.
(We also learned how to record radio to cassettes, then how to burn CD's.)
