Good things... • up and moving early, after a good sleep with lots of dreaming • productivity: way up after a couple negative days • tried a new place for lunch: cheap and very tasty (tacos) • signed up for NFL Sunday Ticket (I hope this is a good thing?) • reached out to my plumber, though I haven't heard back yet (I don't blame him if he's pissed) 1/2 #3GoodThings #GoodThings #ForwardMotion

Good things... • awake before dawn, after a decent sleep • groceries fetched, liquor restocked • recyclables taken to county recycling center • yard work complete • less Canadian forest fire smoke today • temperatures back to NEPA Summer normal (81˚F/27˚C), with low humidity and a nice breeze • Cubs resume play at home vs. the Twinkies, after the All Star break And now, I proclaim Happy Hour here at Schloss Hessert, and pour myself a dirty Martini. Cheers! 🍸 🙂 #3GoodThings #3GoodThingsToday

Feels mostly like a wasted day, but I did manage to... • resuscitate my old Lenovo desktop computer • pull out and update my Raspberry Pi 4B after a few years in storage • spend some quality (but hot) time in the cockpit of Baby Blue And today's haze is definitely forest fire smoke from Canada. Hope they're able to contain all that soon! Poor air quality is a rarity here in NEPA. #3GoodThings #3GoodThingsToday

Things... • nice fireworks display last night * • today is my birthday (65) • hunting for antique toy trains on eBay • drinking good, hot coffee * They shoot the fireworks from the high school, which is across the golf course, a lake, and up a hill. So I have a fine view from my front lawn/driveway. Very convenient! Lots of folks come watch them from the golf course across the street. I've got plenty of free parking. 😉 #3GoodThings #GoodThings #Birthday #Fireworks #Coffee

Some good things... • super clean bill of health from Baby Blue's 60k mile service (2012 Mazda MX5 Miata) at a Miata shop • mechanic was full of praise: "cleanest, best I've ever seen, immaculate underneath" • ~100 miles driving Baby Blue, 1/2 with new spark plugs, trans oil, and diff oil • saw a Bald Eagle land in a tree next to the road as I drove past • ~3 miles walking/hiking • a couple hours spent just sitting outside in Nature #3GoodThings #3GoodThingsToday

A very nice day! 🌞 🙂 · Cubs blow up the Blue Jays 2-16 · beautiful weather in NEPA (again) · excellent Chicken Marsala cooked from scratch, without a recipe #3GoodThings

Since I am retro, and still own retro equipment... let's see what other people think of my current (and very aged) speaker system? 😉 https://www.digitec.ch/en/page/my-retro-21-bose-set-up-and-how-great-the-90s-speaker-system-sounds-22621

Discussing major purchases (cars, appliances, furniture, etc.), I told one of my daughters that I have good taste and discernment. She agreed, but added that I have "expensive taste". At first I was slightly offended, but it is true. I'd rather spend more money one time for a quality product, than buy the same damn thing repeatedly at a cheaper price. I'm also an aficionado of art and style, and am willing to pay more for those qualities in a product. 1/2 #Q...

I am so very grateful to have grown up in the 1960s/70s. Especially for the music. Born in 1961, I grew up in Chicago. From an early age, I had my Mom's college radio in my room (AM tube based), invariably tuned into WGN (720 kHz, AM). 1/2

May 4th, 1970. On this date, Ohio National Guardsmen opened fire on unarmed students at Kent State University who were peacefully protesting the Vietnam War. They killed 4 students, and wounded another nine, one permanently. In case you don't recall your government murdering fellow Citizens without cause... I do. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kent_State_shootings

Last couple nights, we have thunder-boomers rolling through after dark. This is what I remember from our Summers here in the 1960s/1970s: sunny warm days, and then toward evening, rain would roll in. It's a nice thing to have: sunshine when you're out and about getting things done, rain at night to keep the plants growing vigorously, and to help put you to sleep. #NEPA #PAWx #Spring

Welcome to Friday: the weekend is nearly here! Greening up continues here in NEPA. Today is dark and gloomy, rain showers throughout the day. I might run errands — or just park myself here at home, and get some cleaning done? Hope you're able to get out and enjoy some Spring weather where you live. 🙂 #NEPA #PAWx #Spring #Weekend

Greetings from NEPA. It's a gorgeous sunny, warm day here: already 66°F/19°C. I'll take Baby Blue for today's errand run! 🌞 Hope to get all the power tools for yard work running this afternoon. Tomorrow will be much colder, and wintry wet.

Good morning, Peeps! Things are greening up quickly here, after some rain and much warmer temps. Finished and filed my taxes yesterday! 💰 🙂 While completing that task, I also got my desk cleared off: I can see the wood surface again! A ton of piled papers filed, recycled, or shredded. A New Year's resolution finally accomplished in April. Nice, warm, sunny weather for the next few days. Outside chores need attention. Hope you are all healthy and happy! 🙂

I am getting things done, and having fun today! It's an unfamiliar situation. Maybe opening up the windows all day yesterday blew the cobwebs out of my brain, as well as clearing out and refreshing the house? 🤷‍♂️ #NEPA #Spring #Cleaning

Well this is odd. Usually business folks up here take their time getting back to you. Especially tradesmen, who are almost always a one man shop = very busy. Today I made calls to three different businesses, and had responses from all of them in an hour! 😮 Is our beautiful weather affecting more than just me?

Wednesday night. Warren Zevon is always good, to me. Popping this one up, because I hadn't seen this performance before? Audio is a bit stuffy, but hey: it's live! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wT9XlQi0yew #Music #1970s #1980s #Rock #WarrenZevon

TIL that bronze is non-magnetic. I really ought to know this, so it will trigger a deep dive on the magnetic properties of various metals. I have a good general knowledge, but need to discover (and retain) the details. Why, you ask? Well 19th/early 20th Century toy trains run on early electrical knowledge and technology. Understanding how and why things were made as they were is important for preservation and restoration. #Trains #Toys #Tinplate #20thCentury
