@thatdnaguy@genomic.social @ChristosArgyrop@mastodon.social Thing is there isn't some vast hoard of GPUs just sitting in data centers waiting to be snatched up at fire sale prices, as what's happened is that companies like Nvidia have diverted their gaming GPU production capacity over to other product lines which aren't just GPUs which you can plug into a convention high powered desktop. Same with the ram. In the server space it is almost always going to be some form of ECC.

@thatdnaguy@genomic.social @ChristosArgyrop@mastodon.social The flash memory will similarly be in formats used for rack mounts and the hard drives will be SAS drives probably, not SATA. This isn't imo a case where the hardware that has been manufactured can get easily repurposed down the line.
