and for many many things, this shift is quite consequential. like, back before people started taking iPads-as-educational-substitutes for granted, there was a common understanding that computers and the internet were something that people need to be taught about

it was understood that there was a need for educational material and so you'd get lots of people writing books about how to use your new computer, or how to use the internet, or whatever and people weren't afraid to admit they didnt know anything b/c it was clearly new and weird
