@beka_valentine@kolektiva.social sometimes I wonder if things work too well now, or other things are too easy.
Back in Windows 95/98 times, I could click around and discover stuff for myself, but sometimes stuff didn't work right, so I'd have to mess around with device manager and IRQs or wipe and reinstall the whole thing.
When I got on the internet - to "post" anywhere meant understanding newsgroups, or building your own website (your ISP even gave you some hosted space and a little how-to).
Trial by fire?

@beka_valentine@kolektiva.social there were chat rooms, and slowly forums picked up from newsgroups, and ICQ, later MSN messenger et al. I was obsessed with contacting people from all over the world. I still am! But if I was 14 and getting online now, I wonder if I'd have dug into things in the same way.

@sarajw@front-end.social i actually dont think thats it tbh. i think a few things happened simultaneously that created the problem for computers, at least. other things are probably connected to it broadly but computers specifically have i think a particular set of reasons
