Can anyone advise me on #ElectricBikes #eBikes? I&#39;m having to replace my lovely Cube Travel Pro after it got stolen and am considering moving to an ebike. The things I loved about the Cube were the Gates Drive carbonfibre &#39;chain&#39; and the Alfine hub gears. But these seem to be hard to find on ebikes. The one I have found with a Gates Drive doen&#39;t have any tradtional gesrs. Is this an issue in a bike with an electic motor?

@Waxingtonknee@mastodon.org.uk What do you mean by "traditional" gears? The Alfine you mention is an internal gear hub which some may consider a not traditional! Is it possible you're referring to the shifting mechanism? For example, indexed (click) shifter vs twist shifter? Enviolo hubs are continuously variable transmission. I have had a bike shop offer to install indexed shifter when I had issues getting used to the CVT on my own bike.

@Waxingtonknee@mastodon.org.uk I researched obsessively when I bought an ebike a couple of years ago - and ended up with the wrong bike. So I'm not the person to ask! But, here's what I found - and hopefully you'll avoid my pitfalls I wanted a belt drive (Gates Drive style), folding, hub geared (essential with belt drive), step over preferably, and UK legal. I ended up with the MiRider GB3 and while it's not a disaster, it's far from ideal. It's very heavy, and due to the folding mechanism it creaks from the headset! It is massively under geared for any experienced rider, and due to the weird non-standard gearing this can't be changed. I found that I don't need the fold, I've never used it 'in anger' and it's too heavy to move around when folded. I should have spent more time going to shops and persuading them to let me test ride them! Good luck
