@toroidalcore No errors logged, overall health self-assessment test result passed.
Could be malware. I'm now keeping a completely standby, isolated copy of everything that won't be touched until I can figure this out.
Argh. This is so weird and upsetting.

@keirFox Maybe try running iotop and see if anything is doing a lot of reading/writing? Might also just check top/htop.

@toroidalcore I have had to "force shutdown" my laptop a few times due to hard freezes thanks to unpleasant issues with multiple monitors and I'm fearful maybe this is the cause?

@keirFox @toroidalcore SMART really isn’t reliable, disks with defects frequently report good health
