@eniko Most are done months before, there are a few speed competitions which start only once the party gets going. And some people will make "party prods", which are usually quite limited, understandably.
This year's PC demo winner took a decade to be released. Author said he had most parts lying around for years. But I guess he assembled it (and probably got the music done) in the past year.

@root42 oh cool! a decade huh, that's a long time i kinda have an idea for a demo. although i'm pretty sure not having actual hardware (486) to test it on would be a limiting factor :'D
