@adamgreenfield we're in favor of things like this there are a few cautions to note in most jurisdictions, for most purposes, it's not legal to encrypt traffic on the public airwaves. that is because they are a finite public resource and corporations would abuse it. that applies regardless of what layer the encryption happens at; check carefully, don't just assume the software wouldn't make it easy to do the wrong thing.

@adamgreenfield haven't had time to read the full playbook, but my impression from skimming this: https://nodestar.net/#playbook - I like that it has a number of chapters focused on the soft skills and organizing aspects. Talking with people, getting other people involved, etc. - very happy it isn't just meshtastic, I see reticulum in there as well. My personal strategy where I live is to attract people with meshtastic, and build out reticulum (and maybe meshcore) as participants grow and things mature. - I like that it encourages just starting. Break out of decision paralysis! - not personally a fan of the web3 shout-out , but I guess that is a sector of techies who could be interested in helping build a local mesh network. I'll have to give the full playbook a read, but so far I like what I see. I dream of deploying a functional reticulum network where I live. I'm curious what it has to say about local & municipal IP infrastructure, but I guess I'll need to read to find out.

@adamgreenfield I bought a couple of Meshtastic LillyGo radios recently and have an extender relay arriving any day now. Not many nodes in Tokyo yet, but going to do my bit to make it happen. Once I'm comfortable with everything, I have a few people out in Okutama who may let me set up nodes out there. Hikers will use it!

@adamgreenfield Check out Freifunk for an earlier similar project. The idea isn't all bad, but it also isn't new. Bandwidth is the big problem iirc.
