I'm surprised Cook's leaving now. I really thought Apple was going to keep him on until Trump's influence started to wane (out of office, or a big swing in the midterms), then have Cook step down and implicitly blame all the boot licking on him (although he's clearly not a sole actor there). I suspect he's staying on in his new role so Apple can continue the boot licking without having to sully Ternus.

    I think if Cook had stepped down 18 months ago, he would have been almost uniformly viewed as an outstanding success, *especially* in terms of how to transition a company away from a founder they're strongly associated with. Now, at least outside of MBA school, it's going to be gold awards to fascists and Liquid Glass.
