Or, maybe vendors decide to delegate the assessment of whether the citation is faithful or not to the original authors. I can imagine one of the big publishers (or maybe Scite) setting up a platform for authors, authenticated by ORCID, to endorse or repudiate citation to their work.

@nyhan interesting idea. I can imagine such tools being used at peer review stage but once published? Nah, Journal publishers want to pretend their peer reviewed papers are perfect :)

@nyhan @aarontay An interesting idea. I wouldn't want to give authors gatekeeper or veto power over how they get cited (since some might not be responsive, or not like how they're cited critically but justifiably). But it could still be interesting to be able to see authors' reactions to how they're cited, whether or not one agrees with those reactions.
