@Canageek I love that #Debian is a combination of "Debbie" and "Ian." The creator named it after himself and his girlfriend.

@Canageek I'm big on MX Linux. It's Systemd free by default, but you can add it if you so choose. It uses xfce as its desktop so it works well on older machines (there's also a KDE version) and it's got a very mature and comprehensive set of administration tools, letting you go so far as to make custom portable boot media based on a system you've configured. It routinely wins various best this and that Linux contests, is well tempered enough that you can stick a newbie in front of it and they'll be fine, and mostly nobody has heard of it. It's a joint effort of the Mepis and Antix projects, I've used it as a daily driver for 8 years or so, nothing but good things to say about the distro and its community.

@Canageek I use Chimera Linux. I decided to try it because it's a little weird. The maintainers tried to rethink what a modern Linux distro should look like, and selected the parts to accomplish that. They use the Alpine package tools. Dinit for service management. FreeBSD Userland tools. I like it because I tend to gravitate towards to novel ideas. It's not choosing pieces for moral or political reasons. It's looking at things practically, and making choices that would best benefit its users.

@Canageek I use several. Desktop mini-PC (low end AMD GPU) runs Aurora (A KDE Plasma distro of universal blue). I use this machine for software development, browsing/email/messaging, and light gameplay (2d games mostly). Runs great, no complaints. I like the automatic updates, and doing dev work in containers is my preferred approach anyway. Brew took some getting used to, but works well for me now. Laptop (2022 Asus Zephryus M16, Nvidia RTX4090) runs bazzite also with KDE plasma. This is where I play 3D games. I can dual boot Windows 11 on this machine, but I haven’t needed to for a while. Runs great, no complaints. Home server, mini-PC, runs Ubuntu 24.something. Mostly running docker containers for various services I use in my house. Runs great, no complaints. I barely have to pay attention to this machine.

@Canageek not sure how obscure my distros are but i chose distro based on support for novel hardware so I have a macbook with asahi linux and a fairphone 5 with full kde plasma tiling on top of alpine/postmarketos... its cool because of the hardware and really its just trying to be boring on the software side (aka fully functional no quirks)
