Been reflecting on the challenges of maintaining a blog that's preserved long-term. Balancing the cumbersome process of digital preservation with the ease of instant publishing is tricky, but it's worth ensuring my work persists. Exploring tools and networks like Rogue Scholar for this task while automating wherever possible to reduce the effort. https://eve.gd/2026/04/19/the-necessary-pain-involved-in-blogging-if-you-want-your-work-to-be-preserved-beyond-your-lifespan/

@mpe Your writing work is highly valued in the community. Your preservation work is impressive, and you're generous to write about the process. Thank you! Have you talked to archivists at your institution about donating your work, including the blog when you are no longer able to maintain it? I've worked at a couple university archives where preserving faculty work is part of the mission.

@mpe Thank you for sharing your journey with us. (I have nothing useful to say most of the time, maybe I have here.) By making a static website you already did most of the work. OVH allows to renew a domain name for up to 10 years (not all TLDs). I've never managed to renew the associated static hosting for more than 3 years. I suppose the gratis hosting plan (100 MB) might vanish any time. A shared (nonprofit/coop) hosting might be more durable, e.g. Codeberg Pages or Autistici/Inventati.
