Noticed now that the #ECB published a "Guide on outsourcing cloud services to cloud service providers". https://www.bankingsupervision.europa.eu/ecb/pub/pdf/ssm.supervisory_guides202507.en.pdf (Via the annual report: https://www.ecb.europa.eu/press/annual-reports-financial-statements/annual/html/ecb.ar2025~b7f898b33d.en.html .) I couldn't find any mention of source code although the document arises from Regulation (EU) 2022/2554 which mentions "open source a...

Part of the reason I find generative "AI" peddlers so tiresome, I suspect, is that they regurgitate so much of the playbook of the worst Hegelian/Marxist cliché. "Follow me, for I represent the FUTURE! How do I know the future, or why do I think the future is better than the present, you ask? Shut up, traitor!" Do we really have to have this debate all over again? Anyway, I've added a couple quotations from #KarlPopper on moral futurism, anti-ration...

Pro tip: bookmarking https://www.tind.io/ is an effective way to let Firefox autocomplete accidentally bring you to a safe space when you're at risk of visiting a dangerous domain a few letters longer.

"Airfares on Asia-Europe routes spike on war in Iran: Travelers hoping for a return to more moderate long-haul airfares this summer are in for a rude awakening." https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-03-26/asia-europe-flight-prices-surge-as-iran-war-disrupts-jet-fuel-cost-supply-chain Cry me a river AKA non tutto il male vien per nuocere. #EnergyCrisis #FlyLess #StayGrounded

The #GoodReads import is so smooth, I thought when migrating from #aNobii. Too bad years later I find out that many of my reviews are just an "Err:510".

Excellent news from #Facebook: «“If you deliver $100 in ads to Italy, where there is a 3% location fee, you will be charged $100 (ad delivery), plus $3 (location fee), for $103 total,” the company wrote. “Note that any applicable VAT will be calculated on top of the total amount.”» https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2026-03-10/meta-hikes-fees-for-advertisers-to-cover-europe-s-digital-taxes Every little additional friction in the #AdTech market helps fight #MassSurveillance. "Snack responsibly", says the #Oreo package. A bit rich to say when you are basically a saturate solution of sugar in palm oil. (A portion is officially 2 pieces or 22 g.) I end up buying Oreos when travelling because they are often the only recognisable #vegan option in vast areas of central Europe where it's apparently mandatory to add a drop of butter or cow milk in every bakery product just for the sake of it.

My #ThinkPad x1 carbon gen1 (manufactured November 2011) still serves me well, but the keyboard has started giving up. I've ordered a backup keyboard for 40 € from some HK seller, let's see what happens... (I'm positive I had a backup keyboard stashed somewhere, but maybe I lost it when I moved several years ago, or maybe it's still in Milan.)

I see that the European Commission is adopting that well-tested method for "simplification", called "let's rewrite all basic definitions in the law from scratch and throw 10 years of court rulings out of the window, so we can start anew!". https://noyb.eu/en/digital-omnibus-report-v3-analysis-select-gdpr-and-eprivacy-proposals-commission #EUpolicy #GDPR #DigitalOmnibus

In hindsight, this January 13 announcement was significant: «The U.S. Navy aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln CVN 72 conducted a live fire Close In Weapon System exercise on 8 January 2026, according to information published by the U.S. Department of War. The drill confirmed the carrier’s ability to defeat close-range aerial and surface threats while operating in a strategically sensitive region.» https://www.armyrecognition.com/focus-analysis-conflicts/navy/naval-technology/how-u-s-navy-nim...

In order to download EU law documents from https://eur-lex.europa.eu , I now need to send my personal data to Amazon in the USA (allow connections to awswaf.com). #DigitalSovereignty is going great.
