@MIfoodie it isn't, right now! but if you can wait a few months, things will *probably* ease up even though chipmaking factories are finite and stacked up with work, this sort of demand means capital is rushing towards building out more RAM capacity -- there's money to be made so if you can wait 6 months or so, prices may soften significantly they're already 5% down from their peak

@MIfoodie Also, depending on what you need your laptop to do, you could do just fine with a used one I have a Linux laptop (an old Lenovo thinkpad) for doing basic web stuff -- online docs, browsing, watching videos, local word processing and coding -- and it works great it's maybe 12 years old, I bought it on facebook marketplace for $50, then added $100 of RAM and a $100 hard drive

@clive @CliffsEsport Computer Engineering degree. I'm not planning on bringing a desktop so would much rather get a new laptop that I can 200% rely on for a longggg time. In terms of OS, would love to run Linux but really just depends on what software I'll end up using because at least some engineering software doesn't play real nice with Linux. I've considered duel-booting windows and linux but I'll rather everything be in one place rather then spread across many systems. I also do some medium weight gaming. Would love to get a #Framework if the finances work out cc @frameworkcomputer if you're not familiar with them
