@MIfoodie
Also, depending on what you need your laptop to do, you could do just fine with a used one
I have a Linux laptop (an old Lenovo thinkpad) for doing basic web stuff -- online docs, browsing, watching videos, local word processing and coding -- and it works great
it's maybe 12 years old, I bought it on facebook marketplace for $50, then added $100 of RAM and a $100 hard drive

@MIfoodie (I mean it's a 12 year old model -- maybe 10, not sure -- and I bought it last summer)

@clive @MIfoodie Though Thinkpads carry premium on used market, HP or Dell often better deal for used. And if you get decent Chromebook they can run Linux apps easily via Crostini, or full Linux distros via VMM. Like less than $300 usually even now with shopping.
