My first-ever go of filleting fish (a mackerel) was not especially pretty, but this week we filleted a plaice - which involved less guts and was generally much better. Not loving how, both weeks, my fingers have stank of fish for two days after filleting. I've tried washing cold to start with, using dish soap, baking powder and lemon juice, stainless steel... But still left grimacing. Any tips? #Food #Cooking

@RuthSalter rub oil all over your hands first, then add soap directly and rub all over, then wash.

@RuthSalter The big gouge on the plaice is where they gutted it. Being a flat fish means they have to keep things in strange plaices 😄

Back to our fish course after a two-week break, and this week we made trout en croute. I tried to make it in the shape of a fish head, but the pastry was quite dry from sitting out and my decorating skills left something to be desired... Tasted good though. Fingers didn't smell so bad this week, I'm guessing because the fish came gutted and I had fewer fishy things to wash in hot water, so yet to try @SRDas 's oil-and-soap tip for getting the smell out. #Cooking #Food
