@wilbr because he was actually the only one capable of speaking.. The rest is a dubbing of its meows, grunts, and roars. He had access to psychedelic drugs and potions, which were responsible for generating speech.

@wilbr Why is Linguini, who was presumably born and raised in Parris, to a French father and presumably a French mother, who goes in to work at a French restaurant, speaking in a very obvious American accent? You could maybe excuse the rats, but not that.

@wilbr Personally, I always assumed that Robert Guillaume was showing up the rest of the production, since they didn't give him any songs. Like, who the heck hires that man's voice for musical comedy and just writes some Yoda nonsense...?
