@Bfordham I read the NYT daily and while I have my issues with their coverage, I don’t feel like what you describe is a common issue.
To me, this feels more like something got cut in the editing process and no one noticed that once it was cut that the earlier paragraph had no explainer.
I thought about leaving a comment on the article for the authors, but the NYT comment section is a mess.

@grigs I meant that as a general comment. I was really unclear, I'm sorry about that. Having now read the article you mention, you are correct, it never really states what it's talking about. It does mention LegalZoom and others, as someone else has pointed out it may be referring to legal tools. But it also mentions arts, etc. My guess is you're right, it's bad editing. It kinda feels like someone wrote an article about a specific set of tools for a specific industry, then then an editor said "oh we can make this about the broader issue" and then a lot of clarity was lost.
