@stavvers A few years ago there was a big push to locate the Franklin expedition that was lost while trying to find the northwest passage around Canada. Someone finally just got around to asking the indigenous people and they were like "oh, yeah there's a sunken ship just over there, you can see the mast sticking out of the water every year when the water's low"

@stavvers The data was known to a geologist who did some classified (or was it commercial, i.e. oil related?) deep sea mapping. They were not allowed to publish the data for a while. The story is even worse... (plus who TF has the time to go to all conferences? And back then you didn't get to read all the abstracts online weeks in advance)

@stavvers golly 😹 the follies of mankind and the ones who think they are superior to others in this regard (they could have talked to one another about it more!)😹 I will continue to learn from mistakes and mistakes of others, but sometimes it is just so silly to see things like this 😹 It did make me laugh, so thank you for sharing 🩷😹

@stavvers I worry how much I missed when I had to doom scroll various Teletexts for latest news. Especially with Bamboozle distracting me from important news.
