And I heard someone referring to this argument as victim-blaming, but it's not. It's just true that as soon as you link a credit card to an account, your anonymity is compromised.
Perhaps Proton should develop systems to not have access to payment methods (not sure how that would work since renewal should work even if the person isn't logged in). But you can hardly fault them for complying with a Swiss court order.

To me, this reveals a few things: 1. People are quick to jump on Proton (more so than other providers, it feels like) for things that other providers are doing *routinely* and often without even waiting for court orders. 2. Most other providers also have *way* more information about you that they can divulge. Proton has worked hard to minimize the information they have access to (like Signal in the messaging space). 5/?
